Tolstoy Foundation Nursing Home, located in Valley Cottage, N.Y., is a nonprofit corporation founded by Alexandra Tolstoy, daughter of the famous author and humanitarian Leo Tolstoy, and her colleague, Tatiana Schaufuss, to minister the needs of Russian and other Slavic speaking people. The nursing home is a more than 90-bed facility providing skilled nursing, rehabilitation and personal care services on a long- and short-term basis. All resident rooms are located on the ground level with the administrative offices and dining area located in the two-story portion of the building. The inter-disciplinary team of caregivers provides a resident-centered approach with emphasis on meeting physical, social, cultural and spiritual needs of the residents. The home also offers arts and crafts, cards and games, concerts, exercise programs, field trips, gardening, happy hour, lectures, movies, music programs and poetry readings.
