Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, based in Kingsford, Mich., offers a range of services to the area community. The department provides community health services for women, infants, and children and also offers hearing and vision testing, children’s special health care services, maternal and infant support services health insurance program for uninsured children in Michigan’s working families, influenza immunizations, immunizations clinics, family planning programs, and breast and cervical cancer control programs. Its environmental health division is responsible for preserving, protecting, and improving the public health, welfare and environment within Dickinson and Iron counties in Michigan. The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department is also prepared to respond to any emergency impacting the public’s health. The responsibility of the emergency preparedness section is to prepare the health department staff to respond to public health emergencies, collaborate with local, regional and state emergency response partners, educate the public, and to provide rapid detection and intervention of public health diseases and emergencies.
