Hospice of the Bluegrass, located in Lexington, Ky., is a private nonprofit organization serving more than 600 terminally ill patients daily in more than 20 central, southeastern and northern Kentucky counties. Established in 1978, Hospice of the Bluegrass is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and certified by Medicare and Medicaid. It offers support and bereavement services to family members and caregivers. It offers a variety of services, such as home care, nursing home care, pediatric programs, grief education and support services. Its team consists of physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, bereavement counselors, chaplains and trained volunteers. Hospice of the Bluegrass offers a palliative medicine fellowship program in partnership with Kentucky Medical Center. Additionally, it provides courses in palliative medicine.
